About

About me and this project

Hi, I'm Caleb Faruki. Software engineer based in Paris, France. Outside of work, I tinker with Bike Builder. I have a bike I'm fond of, but finding compatible parts can be tricky. This project started as an idea I developed during my own struggles to find replacement parts as a novice bike rider. I was surprised to find that most resources were either inadequate or not readily designed for amateurs. So here is how I throw my hat into the ring.

Secondly, I designed this site with performance in mind. You will notice a surprising lack of images and fancy features. That is intentional. Emphasis is on immediacy of information and page load time so you can move on with your life and touch grass.

Feel free to contact me on Mastodon.

Why make money on this?

Just like any sane person, I recognize that using affiliate links and ads incentivizes lawful evil behavior. But I have to start somewhere until I know that people actually want to use this. Public appreciation is great. But paying bills works too. Working on this project means I work less hard at my day job which I also enjoy doing.

Assuming this gets traction, I have a lot of great ideas for where to take this project. But all of that rests on this being sustainable.

How can you help out?

If you appreciate Bike Builder, there are several ways to support this project. Knowledge sharing, feature requests, and bug reports are all welcome. And if you really appreciate the site please do consider contributing financially either by using one of the affiliate links here or by donating directly via Ko-fi.

Or just tell a friend about this site!

Do you sell bike parts?

Overall, I don't feel great about using Amazon links. But it is the best option for a bootstrapping until this project gains some notoriety. If you are an online shop with an affiliate program, please do reach out to me! I would be happy to list affiliate links for your site and give it greater prominence. Small businesses for the win.
